*Further information available on the Intranet at www.rafhockey.dii.r.mil.uk* Foreword by Group Captain Clive Coombes OBE RAF, Chairman RAFHA
Welcome to the Home of RAF Hockey on the web. Thanks for visiting our site which I hope will give you the information you need regarding our sport in the RAF. If not, or indeed if you have comments regarding the information herein, please get in touch with one of the RAFHA Executive Committee, listed on the site or by emailing us. Moving on, we are now well into the 2007/2008 season and have completed the initial 3 events in the revised organisation and structure of RAF Hockey namely the Ladies' and Mens' Festivals and the inaugural Regional Tournament (replacing the Inter-Commands). Whilst there were inevitably teething problems, the events have proved to be successful and we will continue with the formats for, at the very least, one more season. In this regard, I must thank all who participated for making the events such a success; your efforts, your forsaking of personal time, and your contribution to the game is much appreciated - many thanks! Oh, and PLEASE keep coming, and bring your colleagues next year! On the topic of the Regionals, well done to the North who are the first winners of the trophy after a closely fought contest ending up with all teams on the same number of points and with the same goal difference! I must at this stage also recognise and congratulate the recipients of the RAFHA Awards for the 2006/2007 season. These are: The President’s Cup. Awarded at the discretion of the RAFHA President to the person who has contributed significantly to RAF Hockey, was awarded to Sgt Sunil Raval for his outstanding contribution to the success of the IAF tour, his commitment to umpiring and coaching, and for his efforts to ensure the success of the first Men’s Hockey Festival. The Eisenhower Trophy. Awarded by the RAFHA cttee to the person who has contributed the most to the success of the RAFHA, was awarded to Flt Lt Carole McCullough for her outstanding contribution to the organisation and running of the RAFHA. Through a difficult period she has kept the organisation together and continues to devote much of her time to sec duties, managerial duties and also playing for the RAF Ladies’ Team. The Ian Forster Trophy. Awarded to the most promising U23, SAC Ritchie Corbett. The Lorie Dowdeswell Trophy. Awarded to the most promising female player, SAC Robynne Scott. Well done to all the award winners; many congratulations. And so to the rest of the season. The fixtures for the Mens and Ladies Teams will be advertised here and if you are not playing, your support at these fixtures would be greatly appreciated, as it would at the Inter-Services Event in Aldershot - 12 and 13 Mar 08. In addition, watch this site for details of the final event of the season in April 2008, namely the final piece of the new approach to RAF Hockey, the Inter-Station Cup event. Again, thanks for visiting this site. Yours in hockey.
